This manual describes the documentation that comes with the HP Tru64 UNIX
operating system.
It also provides information about the structure of the
documentation kits and the tools used to access the documentation.
Audience
This manual is for anyone who needs to access documentation about the
Tru64 UNIX operating system.
It can help you decide which manuals in
the documentation set are most useful to you and how you can use those manuals.
New and Changed Features
This manual was revised to provide you with information about changes
to the Tru64 UNIX documentation that have been made since the last release
of the operating system.
For an overview of the major changes to the Version
5.1B documentation set, see
Section 1.2.
Using This Manual
The following list describes guidelines for using this manual:
When viewing this manual on line, many of the references to the Tru64 UNIX documentation have links attached to them. In general, when the document is mentioned, the link will take you to the place in Chapter 2, Chapter 3, or Chapter 4 where the document is described. Once there, clicking on the name of the book in the title will open the book in a new window.
To use the links to the books, you must be viewing this Documentation Overview in the same environment in which the Tru64 UNIX documentation set is installed, for example from the Documentation CD-ROM or on the World Wide Web.
When a manual serves several audiences, the online documentation library lists that book on the bookshelf for each audience it serves. For example, the Release Notes manual has information that applies to all audiences, so the manual appears on the General User, System and Network Management, and Programming bookshelves.
However, in this Documentation Overview the descriptions for these multi-audience manuals are described once. For example, the Release Notes are described only in Chapter 2 in the printed and online version of this Documentation Overview.
This manual is organized as follows:
| Chapter 1 | Provides general information about the Tru64 UNIX documentation set. |
| Chapter 2 | Describes the manuals and other documentation that are used by all users of the Tru64 UNIX operating system. |
| Chapter 3 | Describes the manuals and other documentation that are used by system and network administrators of the Tru64 UNIX operating system. |
| Chapter 4 | Describes the manuals and other documentation that are used by software developers who program on or for the Tru64 UNIX operating system. |
| Chapter 5 | Describes some additional documentation that is packaged on the Tru64 UNIX Operating System and Associated Products CD-ROMs. |
| Chapter 6 | Describes the Tru64 UNIX reference pages, shows the various ways of displaying the reference pages on line, and describes the contents of the Reference Pages Documentation Kit. |
| Chapter 7 | Describes the Device Driver Kit and the contents of the books in that kit. |
| Appendix A | Lists the core and supplementary components of the Tru64 UNIX documentation. |
