Subject: Re: 2600 - The Hacker Quarterly Date: Wed, 3 Mar 1999 04:54:17 -0500 From: JOHN MALMBERG To: EVERHART I have set up a E-MAIL reflector to this account at WB8TYW@QSL.NET. But stuff sent there still goes through the corporate system. The jerryanne@aol.com does not. I have also started to populate an FTP site at ftp.qsl.net/pub/wb8tyw/ with some stuff. There is a copy of it also at http:/www.getadeal.net/downloads/VMS/ . I will send you an E-mail when I get the next to batches copied up. I am working 12 hour shifts this week covering for someone that is out. There now is: GZIP.EXE that can read the LINUX distribution .GZ files. It also supports full VMS file specifications with wildcards, and accepts VMS "/" syntax. Richard Levitte is looking it over to see about merging with his copy that also has some improvements. I only built it because the freeware GZIP could not handle the LINUX files. SOCKETSHR.EXE - I found some bugs, and had to fix them. Headers for GCC/VAX to match DEC C RTL, and provide networking definitions. Also a more current GCC-AS and LIBERTY.OLB than available at most archives. SAMBA 1.9.16? Built in DEBUG, but will run with CMU-IP. To be uploaded: UCXSIM_IPC_SHR.EXE - When the logical name UCX$IPC_SHR.EXE points at it, some DEC C programs that are precompiled to work with UCX will work with CMU-IP/NETLIB. It works with a test program talking to an NT echo server. It did not work with SAMBA though, and I do not know why, but it may be that SAMBA is depending on some options that I could not emulate to actually do something. Someone may find it useful. SAMBA 1.9.19 Pre-alpha test. I have been trying to get this mess to fit on some floppies in a reasonable order. But will probably just post the source. One component needs to be linked to sys.stb, and the code is structured so that every executable needs almost all of the object code. NMBD from that will not run due to a deficiency in CMU-IP. -John Malmberg
