I have two Vaxstation 4000s at home, one of which is equipped with a Toshiba CDROM drive. I would like to be able to burn some CDRs from a suitable PC, containing such things as installation kits, documentation, to go with any and all bits and pieces that I hope to acquire via the Hobbyist Licence program (please skate quickly over the legal issues here, if this offends...) (I can borrow the entire CONDIST and CONOLD sets, but would prefer to put together, say, a single CD from each containing what is relevant to my own machines and software.) Trawling through DejaNews, I have found that some folks have burned CDRs by using VDDRIVER-served "container" disks, which are INIT'd and filled as ODS-2 volumes and then FTP'd in binary mode to a suitable PC where the CDR is written using this single file as a "disk image". I read this as a block-by-block copy to the CD, thus resulting in an ODS-2 volume. Is that correct ? If so, it will presumably not be easily readable elsewhere ? Are there other alternatives ? I know that VMS 6.0 and up supports ISO9660 format, which is more widely supported. If I wanted to do this, and was creating CDRs of purely textual information, for example, on my PC, are there any nasties to look out for which would render this CDR unreadable on my VS ? I'm thinking of file/directory structure, file-names, etc. Any and all advice gratefully appreciated. (Of course this all depends on us getting this CDRW drive to burn just one CDR without failing...) -- John Laird (john@yrl.co.uk) "I have discovered a truly elegant sig, Yezerski Roper Ltd sadly there is no room here to show it." http://www.yrl.co.uk
