Everhart, Glenn From: fredm3047@halcyon.com Sent: Monday, April 05, 1999 7:33 PM To: Info-VAX@Mvb.Saic.Com Subject: ANN: swish-1.2.1-vms-1 compatible with Purveyor websearch 2.0 O.K. orkers, cow or otherwise: I found swish-1.2.1 at Roadkills R Us (www.rru.com) and did the minimally necessary hacks to get it to work with Purveyor's webindex 2.0. Chiefly: o Changed the INDEXHEADER to "WebIndex format 2.0" (why?? what did they change that required a format rev?) o Modified indexadir so that it strips versions from VMS file specs. Known bugs/features: o It doesn't recursively search directories successfully because it doesn't return subdirectories to VMS in a format that VMS recognizes. I consider this a propitious accident of fate that obviates me from needing to implement a [+/-]R switch. o You'll need to monkey with your ReplaceRules because it internally passes VMS file syntax instead of a un*xified flavor. o You won't want multiple versions of files in the directories you index. Think about it. Hrmmm, well actually I suppose you could use older versions for extended clues, if you didn't mind multiple entries in the index... weird. o You'll still want to visit http://www.rru.com/meo/useful/www.html and download the full distribution. The saveset at Halcyon doesn't include docs, etc. and believe me, you want them. Many more switches. I'm looking for a new ISP (I have prospects, thanks. This is not a solicitation for UCE.). Now if there's a VMS-friendly site that wants to carry the full distribution, let's talk. Point your browsers at http://www.halcyon.com/m3047/swish/ The saveset includes an .EXE which ran today on AXP/OpenVMS 7.1. Why wouldn't it run tomorrow? I would expect it to, but hey. Recordsize when creating the saveset was 32256 (the default for a saveset on disk) IIRC... if you don't know how to use SET FILE/ATTR, don't even think about it!!! Thanks to GrayMatter Software (www.graysoft.com) for their forebearance in letting me use one of their machines. Other than that and the fact that their site is now indexed with it, they don't know or care about any of this; don't pester them, although polite thankyous or cash grants would I suppose be welcome. Geez, just buy their software. :-p I sent e-mail to RRU letting them know about it. Can't find a valid and verifiable contact point for EIT.
