  The base OpenVMS license price can (and does) vary by system.  In
  this case, what you need are the letter codes for positions seven 
  and nine of the license:

    QL-MT1A*-6*     OpenVMS Alpha Operating System Base License

  In the specific case of the personal workstation, positions seven and 
  nine are:

    QL-MT1AE-6X  OpenVMS Alpha BASE Astations

  A rather poor description of the license, that.

  I have asked that a table of positions seven and nine be added to the
  software licensing website, as well as information on transfering a
  base license from the seller to the buyer of a system.  (That said, if 
  you have not visited the software licensing website recently, there 
  have been extensive changes to the materials available there -- please
