Arne,
go to console level and type:
    >>> show ewa0_mode

To see the list of allowed modes, just type something like:
    >>> set ewa0_mode xxx

You should make sure that you AlphaStation and the switch
agree on the speed and if half- or fullduplex.

If you don't have an ALPLAN ECO installed, than I guess you
have the DE500-XA variant installed. Autonegotiaton might not
always work properly and nasty things can happen otherwise.
