Everhart, Glenn From: rjordan@MCS.COM Sent: Thursday, April 01, 1999 6:29 PM To: Info-VAX@Mvb.Saic.Com Subject: Alphastation 200 Flash chips I'm trying to install the full Flash in my AS200 4/166, in preparation making this my primary home system (hobbyist VMS!, plus occasional dips into NT cesspool for a couple programs I can't replace). My system has the two empty sockets for the additional chips. Per an old c.o.v message I ordered 28F020-120JC from JDR Microdevices. The ones they sent are made by CTi, and did not work (I ordered two pair just in case, no combo works and I was very careful and static protected during installation). The upgrade disks do not see anything past the original 512K of ROM. The likely cause (thanks to Terry for the info!) is that only AMD or Intel _branded_ ROMs are supported. JDR (and Digikey, and a couple other places I called) no longer carry those and will only order a "full tube" of 30 chips. I need 2, I'll buy 4 as a fudge factor. Does anyone know of an in country (USA) source for AMD or Intel chips that will sell a small quantity? I'm out of sources. Thanks! Rich Jordan rjordan@mcs.net
