[Page Header Logo] [GossiTheDog online Logo] ------------------------------------------------------------------------ [ back to Emulation ] Nintendo 64 [Image] This is my P200 Cyrix running Mario. No, really. The "Ultra 64" is a technically great console, and it's nice to see that a 171k emulator can fully emulate many top games without problems, including Mario 64 and Zelda 64. What do I need to run 64 games? All you need is a program called UltraHLE, which is available to download here. Where do I get the games? Well, it's a bit dodgy just downloading all the latest releases and not paying for them. And it's also illegal ;) Seriously, however, if you like the games you play damn well buy them. Otherwise they won't get made. (note: a good place to start for roms is the IRC network "DALnet" (a server is irc.dal.net) in the channel #emulation-nation. Read the topic and see if any "Fservs" are open, if they are type the fserv activation command (eg !cyote)). [Image] In 1996 (when the N64 was launched and when I brought my PC), I would never have thought my PC (otherwise know as "lump of lard") would be able to run it's games. What games work? Most "major" games work. These include (but ain't limited to): * Zelda: Ocarina of Time (US version requires patch) * Super Mario 64 * Wave Race 64 * Mario Kart 64 * Doom 64 * Quake 64 * Banjo-Kazooie * GoldenEye (slight graphical corruption) What kind of system do I need? A good CPU is a start. A Pentium II 233Mhz will work fairly well: a PII 300Mhz will work excellent. Next you need about 48+ megabytes of ram. And finally you need a 3D graphics card. By default, UltraHLE requires a 3dfx card. However, there are various "3Dfx glide wrappers" available that allow you to use a Direct3D compatible card as with 3Dfx titles. [Image] Zelda. Need I say more? How well does stuff work? Mario 64 works perfectly on my slow Cyrix. Zelda works totally perfectly (and is a brilliant game as well :). Wave Race appears to work fine. I'll update this bit when I get chance.
