   I've recently done almost exactly that.  I added a DE500-AA to an
Alphastation 200 4/233 running OpenVMS V6.2 with console version V6.8-2.

   As soon as I inserted the card, the console saw the ewb0 device.
I set the ewb0_mode console variable value to negotiate the speed and
half/full duplex mode.  Upon booting, SCS started to use the EWB0 device
and the machine joined our cluster.

   Perhaps you didn't set ewb0_mode at the console prompt.

   With the patches, OpenVMS 6.2 can run at 100mbps.  I do have one
interesting problem though.  SCS begins to use the EWB0 device.  However,
when DECnet (Phase IV) starts, the cluster looses connection with the
machine for a few seconds.
