Subj:	[ntdev] FYI: ImSamp, NDIS 4.0 Intermediate Driver Sample

This URL points to the "ImSamp" intermediate driver sample that
Microsoft provides on their website. Several contributors to
this
group have used it successfully.

http://premium.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/q178/3/22.asp

CAVEATS:

1) Ignore the readme's description of how to install; just
use the oemsetup.inf instead (see author's Jan. note below).

2) It does not support NdisWan yet (see authors Feb. note
below).

3) Two nt-kernel contributors have reported auto start problems,

as far as I know (I'm one of them) this has not been resolved.
These problems may be driver load order related.

STATUS:

ImSamp's status as of Feb 6, 1998 was:
>
> I've been working on the next rev of ImSamp that will layer
over NdisWAN as
> well as LAN cards.
> I'm almost done, and will make it available as soon as it's
complete.
> Thanks for your support on the newsgroups. I've dedicated my
time to
> upgrading the sample, rather than answering questions out
there. I thought I
> could help more people, more quickly, with an updated sample.
> As soon as I'm done, I'll replace the ZIP on the Microsoft Web
page, and
> post a notification on the news group.

ImSamp's status as of early January was:
>
>Jeff,
> The readme was written before I had an OEMSETUP.INF. The
right way to
>install the sample is to use NCPA (in the control panel), and
point it to
>the OEMSETUP.INF that is included. This INF will install the
sample between
>TCPIP and your NIC card. The only thing it won't do yet, is
break the
>existing bindings between TCPIP and your NIC. I'm working on
that feature,
>but for now, you'll have to do it by hand.
>There are a couple of other bugs reported, that will be fixed
in the next
>rev. One of them involves the Adapter->RefCount being
decremented (in
>DeRefAdapter), without being incremented. In
ClReceivePacket().  Another
>bug is in NDISREQ.C, where I set the
NDIS_MAC_OPTION_FULL_DUPLEX bit. This
>causes the sample to assert on multi proc machines. This bit
should not be
>set.
