You've got several different approaches available.

One is to install MX everywhere (replacing MultiNet's SMTP
system.)  Then (once you get everything working :-) all
nodes in the cluster will be able to send and receive
Internet mail with MX%"user@host".  (For the sake of backward
compatibility, do a DEF/SYS/EXEC MAIL$PROTOCOL_SMTP MX_MAILSHR.)
This will have the advantage that mail addresses will be homogeneous
regardless of the system used.  (Or, for that matter, you could
just install MX on the non MultiNet systems and have them define
the logical as above, and have the MultiNet systems define 
MAIL$PROTOCOL_MX as SMTP_MAILSHR.)

The other approach requires that mail look heterogeneous.
Basically, you'll turn off the bit in MAIL$SYSTEM_FLAGS that says that
your cluster is homogeneous mail-wise.  Then the
HOCV04::SMTP%"user@hostname" syntax will work.
