The day that the NYSE sold 1 billion shares (I can't remember which day, but you can look it up in a newswire archive). The second day, all of the brokerages said "No Problem", everything worked fine. The following day - you can look up the SEC filings for the number of brokerages who had to pay fines and settlement fees. Merril Lynch paid $10 million in penalties. Now, correlate those back to the brokerages that have announced a strong alliance with NT. In addition, look for brokerages who were advertizing need for NT gurus in the previous 3-6 months to get a sense of how many they needed. Note also that following every high-volume day, ads from UNIX based brokerages are advertising their superior service and reliable execution. These are carried on Blumberg Radio and Television. You should be able to get the FCC logs. > but even anecdotes, rumors, war stories, and pointers > to USEnet ramblings would help; possibly they could be tracked > down to something authoritative. (I've waited two years to tell it) it's on my web site http://www.access.digex.net/~rballard/autobiography/Auto07.htm > i expect this sort of thing to be hard to find, as most > companies , people who survived IS disasters, > (or got canned ..) tend to be real closed-mouthed about it, If anyone says "no one ever got fired for choosing Microsoft", they are either living in a cave, or have no "real world experience". I've done pretty well cleaning up the mess that Microsoft left behind. In fact, I can often see when a company is in trouble with Microsoft and ready to explore "alternatives". > if not actually contractually forbidden to say anything. > ie, it's not a thing to shouted from the roof-tops. Like I say, I had non-disclosure agreements that kept me on a gag from 1993 to 1997. Even now, you couln't get Dow Jones to tell the "War Stories", but they are "Very Happy HP/9000 customers".
