I am not aware of any errors with the Y2K ECO that comprises part of ALPBASE, though I am aware of an installation error involving an incorrect (missing) option on the LBRSHR image, within one of the constituent command procedures used within the ECO KITINSTAL. (And before anybody infers anything from that statement that they should not, I have not been tracking the rest of the ALPBASE ECO kit...) The LBRSHR information was passed along to the folks that put together the ECO kit shortly after the first report of this problem, and also to the customer support folks. I am not aware of a decision to reissue this kit because of this problem. (At present, I would not expect to see this resolved until/unless we need to reissue the ALPBASE ECO for other reasons.) Would folks prefer us to reissue these kits for errors such as this, or would folks assume there was a problem with the file(s) in the kit and pull over and install a new kit? (When we reissue kits, we normally increment the kit release number, which typically implies changes rather more extensive than fixing a missing option on the KITINSTAL procedure, as there are no image changes here and the files installed are correct.) We have obviously been leaning toward "not", for what should now be obvious reasons... And yes, I know, we should not have had this error occur. We are working to improve the ECO delivery process to try to reduce the incidence of these sorts of errors in the future, and to ease the matrix of ECO kit interdependencies. -------------------------- pure personal opinion --------------------------- Hoff (Stephen) Hoffman OpenVMS Engineering hoffman@xdelta.ZZenet.dec.com note to those folks not contributing spam -- there is no ZZ in my address
