OSR's Blue Screen of Death Screen Saver

Introduction One of the most feared colors in the NT world is
blue. The infamous Blue Screen of Death will pop up
on an NT system whenever something has gone terribly
wrong (see NTCrash for an example of a program that
generates real blue-screens). OSRBSOD is a screen
saver that comes courtesy of our friends at OSR Open
Systems Resources (who Mark works for). It will throw
authentic 'fake' blue screens onto your display (it
works on NT 4.0 only) and every time it comes up, it
will present a different real NT error code. Amuse
your friends and scare your enemies!

Using OSRBSOD Simply copy OSRBSOD.SCR to your <systemroot>\system32
directory. Right click on the desktop to bring up the
Display settings dialog and then select the "Screen
Saver" tab. Use the pull down list to find OSRBSOD
and apply it as your new screen saver.

How it Works OSRBSOD uses Direct X to put the display into 640x480
mode. It them dumps error text onto the screen using
a custom font (specified in a bitmap resource). While
OSRBSOD displays error screens that are almost
indistinguishable from real blue-screens, Direct X
does not support mode 640x400, the mode used by the
real blue-screen code, so OSRBSOD cannot exactly
                      duplicate a real blue screen.
