Article 170935 of comp.os.vms: In article <338EE890.4694@larrynet.com>, jim.stevens@larrynet.com says... > >Yes, but you need to be running the tcp/ip stack on the vms machine. >You can use UCX from Digital, TCPWare from Multinet, etc (there are 4 or >5 available). I know that with TCPWare you can also do PPP, CSLIP and >PPP with CHAP authentication (you can't do chap with ucx). I do not >know if there is a freeware tcp/ip stack with slip. Someone else might >be of help with that. You may want to check with Ohio State Univ (OSU) >as I know they have a freeware http server for vms, they may also have >some freeware tcp/ip stack stuff. TCPware is from Process Software, not "from Multinet". Multinet is another TCP/IP stack for OpenVMS. It was from TGV, which was sold to Cisco. Cisco sold Multinet to Process Software, so Multinet is now from Process Software, too. The Wollongong Group used to market a package called, first, WIN/TCP and then Pathway Access. TWG's Internet Products division was sold to Attachmate, and Pathway is available from them. The free package you're talking about is called CMUIP (or CMU-OpenVMS-IP) from ftp2.kcl.ac.uk, among other places. CMUIP has SLIP built in and an add-on PPP. Personally, I like the aforementioned UK site because of its completeness in available CMUIP add-ons, like the R-series commands and UCX compatibility library. -- Brian Tillman Internet: tillman_brian at si.com Smiths Industries, Inc. tillman at swdev.si.com 4141 Eastern Ave., MS239 Addresses modified to prevent Grand Rapids, MI 49518-8727 SPAM.
