To use Scilab on these machines, you have to compile a source version. When compiling the source version on recent Linux versions, due to a library incompatibility you have to use xaw3d instead of the default xaw library. To do this, you have to configure and make scilab as follows ./configure -with-xaw3d -with-tk make all The scilab-2.6.bin.sgi.tar.gz version had required source modification and cannot be re-obtained by compiling the source distribution.
