Andreas,

You should start with chapter 26 of the Version 5.2 VAX/VMS Internals
and Data Structures book, and use that as a guide to the VMS sources. The
book has ISBN number 1-55558-059-9, was written by Ruth E. Goldenberg and
Lawrence H. Kenah. The book is published by Digital Press.

I am not aware of an update to the book that takes the changes made for
Alpha into consideration, but I would not be surprised to find one. I've
had my copy of this book for several years now. (It was absolutely
essential for my work on the OpenVMS Debugger.) Things did change a little
for Alpha, so be aware of that. When in doubt, go to the appropriate
include files on the system and double-check.

With access to the VMS sources, you might also poke around the Debugger
sources for more information. You'll want to look at DSTRECRDS.SDL if you're
at all interested in the symbol table format. Note the disclaimer at the
head of the file! There's also code in the Debugger that looks at the
image, so you may be able to find out what you need from that.

Note: I don't read every article in this group. If you have debugger
questions, I may be able to get you an answer. You're much more likely to
get an answer if you put "Debug" somewhere in your subject line.
