PERMANENT can be compiled to allow anyone to define permanent symbols or to only allow usage via SYLOGIN.COM. In this way, you can ensure that users don't redefine those important system commands you set up for them! PERMANENT was written by Brian Schenkenberger. It runs under both OpenVMS VAX and OpenVMS AXP. o DBS-NETUTILS (new) o DBS-ODSM (new) o DBS-PATCH (new) o DBS-TAPEUTILS (new) David B. Sneddon has contributed several utilities. NETUTILS contains utilities for monitoring an Ethernet. ODSM is an online disk space monitor. PATCH lets you examine and/or modify disks or files. TAPEUTILS contains utilities to dump, erase, and exercise tapes. All of the DBS utilities run on OpenVMS VAX only. They can probably be made to run on AXP with little or no modification. In a slight break of tradition, .OBJ files are not provided, though .EXE files are. The utilities are written in MACRO and FORTRAN. I don't have the time right now to produce the .OBJ files, but I think these are useful enough that I didn't want to delay getting them added to the FILESERV. o EXTENDED_DIVISION (new) The companion to the recently-announced EXTENDED_MULTIPLICATION! EXTENDED_DIVISION lets you divide DCL strings in any radix. Nice example of DCL math! Written by Claude Barbe. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- You can get them via anonymous ftp from ftp.spc.edu; you'll need: [.MACRO32]UNZIP.EXE or UNZIP.ALPHA_EXE [.MACRO32.SAVESETS]PERMANENT.ZIP [.MACRO32.SAVESETS]DBS-NETUTILS.ZIP [.MACRO32.SAVESETS]DBS-ODSM.ZIP [.MACRO32.SAVESETS]DBS-PATCH.ZIP [.MACRO32.SAVESETS]DBS-TAPEUTILS.ZIP [.MACRO32.SAVESETS]EXTENDED_DIVISION.ZIP The file [.MACRO32]BRIEF.DESCRIPTION contains a brief listing of all the packages available under [.MACRO32.SAVESETS]. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- To get them via e-mail, send the following commands in the body of a mail message to FILESERV@WKUVX1.WKU.EDU: SEND PERMANENT !Comes as 1 60-block file SEND DBS-NETUTILS !Comes as 5 60-block files SEND DBS-ODSM !Comes as 4 60-block files SEND DBS-PATCH !Comes as 1 60-block files SEND DBS-TAPEUTILS !Comes as 4 60-block files SEND EXTENDED_DIVISION !Comes as 1 60-block file SEND FILESERV_TOOLS !Needed if you don't have MFTU and UNZIP Including the command DIR ALL on a separate line will return a brief listing of all the packages available from FILESERV@WKUVX1.WKU.EDU.
