XTS V3.1-0 - Installation Guide

You need to have a DECwindows or X-Windows display terminal. If you are installing on OpenVMS/AXP, you will need a C language compiler.

Digital Unix

• Download, decompress and unpack the software kit in a subdirectory called xts031 in your home directory. This location is not mandatory. Note that the tar file is constructed relative to the current directory, you should cd to the subdirectory before unpacking it.

• Build the program by typing make. You will get a few C compiler warnings. Ignore them, I haven't finished cleaning up the code yet.

• Type in xts and press RETURN. This will start the program. Position the window were you want it and do an Options - Save Settings operation.

  You may wish to edit the resource file $HOME/Xts and change the Xts.hierarchy: line to point to the subdirectory where you installed XTS. The default is the current directory.

Ultrix

Make: Cannot load /usr/bin/X11/uil. Stop.

This is because the UIL compiler is in a different place. I don't know enough about Make files yet to fix this, so you have to enter this command to complete the build;

uil XTS.uil -o XTS.uid

OpenVMS

• Install the program
  • Create a directory to hold the files (this makes it simple to get rid of later);

    $ CREATE/DIRECTORY [.XTS]

  • Go to that directory;

    $ SET DEFAULT [.XTS]

  • Copy the installation command procedure;

    $ COPY AUSSIE::SYS$PUBLIC:[X-TIMESHEETS]XTS_GRAB.COM *

  • Execute the command procedure, like this;

    $ @XTS_GRAB

    (Feel free to type the procedure if you need to know what it will do).

• Add the menu option

  Use the Options - Menus function on your Session Manager or FileView to add a new application called "XTS" that invokes the command procedure XTS.COM in the subdirectory you created. Here is how to do this;

  • select the Options menu in Session Manager,

  • select the Menus menu option in the Options menu, and a new dialog box should appear,

  • select the Applications menu from the left side of the box, (or any other menu you wish to add it to),

  • click on the menu name text field (it is the unlabeled field immediately above the words "DCL Command"),

  • enter the new menu option name, e.g. XTS, or Timesheet,

  • press TAB (to get to the DCL Command text field),

  • enter @XTS and press RETURN,

  • a left arrow button should appear between the second and third columns, press it and the XTS menu option will be copied into the applications menu,

  • press OK.

• Configure

  Start the new menu option. The XTS window should appear. Move it to a convenient place on the screen. Use the Options - Save Settings menu option to make XTS use the new location on startup. Read the HELP.
