NT Affinity Investigations Digital Confidential To better understand the work that needs to be done for NT affinity, we have started a series of investigations which will identify areas that need further work as well as projects that need to be staffed. Contact Steve for details on the findings. Seamless Network Security Investigation Leader: Colin Blake This investigation is initially looking at single signon and multi-domian security. The investigation is complete and the Single signon work has moved into the functional specifical stage. A new investigation on Heterogeneous Security has been started. Investigation Report: PostScript, HTML This investigation is complete and is moving into the specification stage. Heterogenous Security Investigation Leader: Bill Davenport This investigation is looking into how to provide support within OpenVMS for multiple security paradigms on OpenVMS objects such that consistant access is guaranteed. NT Registry Investigation Leader: Christopher Kaler This investigation is looking at providing an NT registry on OpenVMS. Investigation Report: PostScript, HTML This investigation is complete and is moving into the specification stage. NT Affinity and Clusters Investigation Leader: Greg Jordan This investigation is looking into ways to increase NT & OpenVMS cluster interoperability as well as methods and APIs for applications to make better use of clusters. More Information Investigation Report Cluster Comparison Report NT/Win95/WFWG/OpenVMS I14Y Investigation Leader: TBD This is an on-going investigation that involves the entire NT affinity team and hopefully the entire OpenVMS organization. The goal is to establish an environment similar to customers so that we can feel the pain before our customers do. NT System Management Tools and Protocols Investigation Leader: Mike Kimmel This investigation is looking at the NT system management tools and the tools/protocols for NT remote system management to identify how we might tiew this to OpenVMS management. A summary of this investigation can be found in our notes conference. Back Office and WIN32 Server APIs Investigation Leader: Steve Zalewski This investigation is examing the APIs used by server applications beyond the WIN32S subset to help determine a prioritization of API rollout. Refer to our notes conference for additional information. OpenVMS Development Environment on NT Investigation Leader: Wayne Morrison This investigation is taking an initial look at providing an OpenVMS development environment on NT. Investigation Report This investigation is complete. Dollar Clerk on NT Investigation Leader: Jim Johnson This investigation is examining porting the Dollar Clerk to NT. MS RPC / DCE RPC Investigation Leader: Wayne Morrison This investigation is looking into interoperability issues that might exist between MS RPC and DCE RPC and will identify work that can be done in DCE to increase interoperability. This work has completed. No actions are needed. OpenVMS Packaging This investigation is looking at different packaging options for OpenVMS and key products. For more information contact Donna Ritter or Ann Mcquaid. Windows to NT development tools Investigation Leader: Steve Zalewski The Bristol package will provide some tools for moving Windows applications to OpenVMS. This investigation seeks to understand the tools and identify any ideas where additional tools may be needed. This investigation is being folded into the Application Development product concept. Porting Argus to NT Investigation Leader: Todd Flolo / Keith Griffin Investigation Report: PostScript, HTML This investigation is complete. Investigate NT Process, Threads, and Synchronization Investigation Leader: Elie Cohen Investigate the Win32 process, threads, and synchronization APIs and compare them to OpenVMS services and functions to identify possible areas for conflict which Bristol will encounter. This investigation is complete. NT Events and Services Investigation Leader: Christopher Kaler This investigation is looking at providing an NT events and services on OpenVMS. Investigation Report: PostScript, HTML This investigation is complete. NT Affinity Demo Investigation Leader: Carl Cramer This investigation is looking at providing demonstrations of NT Affinity. This investigation is complete, the demo was established and used at DECUS Fall 1995. Future demos may be constructed. NT Performance Monitor Investigation Leader: Keith Griffin This investigation is looking at the NT Performance monitor and how we could connect it to OpenVMS using the registry. This investigation is complete and has moved into the functional specification stage. Investigation Report Named Pipes Investigation Leader: Rick LeVine This investigation is looking into how we can provide authenticated RPCs using named pipes as a transport for DCE RPC.
