+---------------------------+TM | | | | | | | | | d | i | g | i | t | a | l | INTEROFFICE MEMORANDUM | | | | | | | | +---------------------------+ TO: Distribution (see attached) DATE: May 22, 1996 FROM: Lewis MacAdam DEPT: SEP Qualification Engineering CC: LOC.: SHR3-2/X25 ENET: BABAGI::MACADAM TEL.: (508)841-6038/DTN 237-6038 SUBJ: Review - SEP SCSI Common Technical Requirements Standard SEP Engineering has created a draft standard to define Digital's requirements for SCSI storage devices. When finalized, this document will be given to storage device vendors to communicate details of our SCSI implementation requirements over and above those specified in ANSI SCSI. The document will also be supplied to SEP's customers ( SVT groups, O/S driver developers, etc.) to define the SCSI implementation details for SEP's qualification testing of storage devices The project to draft this document has been in progress since early March and the document has been through several review and revision cycles within SEP engineering. The draft document is now ready for review by groups within Digital who are customers for SEP SCSI storage devices. As an individual who is involved with and knowledgeable of SCSI Storage devices your inputs are needed for this document to be complete and accurate. I ask that you carefully review the draft document that will be forwarded to you in a follow-up mail message. I am distributing the document as a WORD .ps print file for an LPS20 printer. If you have any problems getting a hard copy from this file please contact me so I can make other arrangements to get a copy to you. I have also made arrangements for a .pdf file version of this draft to be at SSAG::DISK$ARCH2:[SCSI.PUBLIC.SEP_SCSI]SEP_SCSI.pdf Two all day review meetings will held at the PKO and ZKO sites as follows: Wednesday, June 12th ZK03-3Z/A Archimedes CR 9:00AM - 5:00PM. Tuesday, June 18th PK02-1/2H Lenox CR 9:00am - 5:00pm We will be going through the document in order, taking comments and limited discussion. Our goal will be to complete reviewing the document by days end and have revisions worked out or at least have issues requiring further effort defined. If it is not possible for you top attend one of the scheduled review sessions, please identify and communicate to me any areas where the document needs to be changed or added to in order that it fully specifies your group's SCSI Storage Device implementation requirements. In reviewing this standard please bear in mind that there is no document in existence today that defines our requirements. While our goal is to publish a high quality and comprehensive document, "time to market" is also critical for this project. Our intent is to release Version 1.0 of this standard by the end of June. While this document will certainly need to be modified and added to over time, Version 1.0 will be given to vendors and used as a guide for SEP qualification tools development. Please take the time now to define your requirements for SCSI Storage and provide your inputs. The quality of this standard and the degree to which products proccured under its control meet your needs are dependent on the quality of your input. If you know of individuals who should be involved with this effort but are not included on the attached distribution list please contact me with the information I'll need to communicate with them. Your support will help us meet our goal of shortening overall qualification times and improving product quality by accurately identifying and communicating our product requirements to vendors. ! file: scsi_review.dis ! ! !(AVS/APS) SBU (Parker Street) nm%WRKSYS::BClark !
