This is a routine posting you will see from time to time on Info-ZIP-Announce. The official home for the Info-ZIP utilities is ftp.uu.net in pub/archiving/zip. Anonymous ftp can be used to retrieve the utilities. Sources and many flavors of executables for the utilities can also be found on most of the large archive sites (SimTel, Garbo, etc.). Recipients of the Info-ZIP-announce and Info-ZIP lists are, by definition, considered beta testers. Beta versions of the Info-ZIP utilities can be retrieved by anonymous ftp from quest.jpl.nasa.gov:/beta. Beta versions are made available for testing purposes only and should not be redistributed, nor should this site be publicized. Beta testers should also be aware that there may be dangerous bugs in the code; for example, trying to extract a damaged archive has resulted in the user's disk being filled on more than one occasion. Don't test beta code on anything important, and be sure to report any new bugs. Bug reports should be mailed to Zip-Bugs@WKUVX1.WKU.EDU, a closed list for the Info-ZIP developers. Zip v2.01 and UnZip v5.1 and higher are compatible with PKZip v2.04G (and 2.04C and 2.04E). Well, so much for the hoped-for end-of-the-year release, and ditto for the "weekly betas." Nevertheless, progress was made...thanks to Christian, Paul, Harald, Mike and the others who sent in big fixes and generally helped clean up the mess. I also got a fair amount done myself while on vacation. I'm still shooting to get this thing released as soon as possi- ble, but I'm not going to dump an untested mess on the public. There are still a fair number of things to be done (sigh). The zlib/funzip mods are one of the unfinished things, as are the integration of the fabled MVS and VM/CMS patches. One of the new features I added (the ability to use "-d exdir" anywhere on the command line) seems to work, but the complementary one (UnZipSFX "-x xfiles") doesn't, as I just discovered. I'll get that fixed soon, but I want this uploaded tonight so people can start testing. Note that OLD_EXDIR is no longer supported. The Windows GUI port (WizUnZip) should pretty much work now, with either 16- or 32-bit Borland C++ or with 32-bit Visual C++. It's possible I broke something new or missed one of Mike's "patches," but I don't think so. It still doesn't use the DLL port and won't for this release. Btw, I uploaded a smaller version of the beta archive *without* the WizUnZip stuff for those who don't care about it. Here's the customary full list: - Unix: modified crypt.c TERMIOS/DIRENT stuff [Onno] - added ZipInfo detection of Fred Kantor's MD5 extra field [CN] - added small explicit optimization in inner crypt loop [Christian S] - VMS: extended -b option to allow extraction of binaries in fixed-length 512-byte-record mode [Christian S] - MS-DOS: Watcom support, assembler mods, etc. [Paul K] - if testing and stdout redirected (let's hope to a file and not a pipe) and stderr not, send error messages to both stderr and stdout [CN, Santiago Vila] - added support for -d exdir *before* zipfile name; removed OLD_EXDIR support [CN, ...] - added support for -x xlist without regular file list in UnZipSFX [CN] - added detection of backslashes as dir separators (twnsck12.zip bug) [CN] - moved CRC-table generation into process.c (do only once, not once per zipfile) [CN] - added fillinbuf() function to funzip for USE_ZLIB support [CN] - Windows: updated WizUnZip interface, including lots of new icons [Mike White] - Win32: added crc_i386.asm, 32-bit Intel-assembler version of CRC stuff [Paul K, Christian S] - Amiga: replaced amiga/ subdirectory contents with updated stuff [Paul K] - Atari: major update [Harald Denker] - MS-DOS: updated crc_i86.asm and makefile.msc for multiple memory models [Christian S] - print Info-ZIP banner whenever UnZipSFX invoked (a la PKZIP or lharc) [CN] bugs fixed: - Win32: reversed order of unzip.h and windows.h to avoid G struct size mismatch [Steve S] - changed all remaining dllvoid references to zvoid [CN, Michael Lawler] - updated all makefiles for unzpriv.h, consts.h (globals.c, list.c) [CN] - OS/2: cleaned up leftover __/OF oversights [Kai Uwe] - VMS: cleaned up leftover makefile oversights [Christian S, Mike F] - Amiga: fixed small newline-echo bug [Paul] - fixed short/long printf format bug [Paul] - VMS: cleaned up VMS debug statements [Christian S] - Atari: lots of globals fixes, etc. [Harald] - Windows: general clean-up/final integration of Win GUI port [Mike W] - MS-DOS: various bugfixes, clean-ups, etc. to Paul's assembler changes and to generic sources [Christian S] - MS-DOS: added work-around for GNU make 3.71 to djgpp1 target in Unix Makefile; made 3.71 version the default [E-Yen Tan] - changed all "zip-bugs" to "Zip-Bugs" in unzip.c and README (apparently some mailers are fussy about the case of e-mail usernames) [Fred Lenk, CN] - VMS: removed last tabs from vmsdefs.h [Christian S] - OS/2, MS-DOS: fixed bug that disallowed 0x7f character in filenames [CN, Julio Ruiz Albek] - VMS: fixed zipinfo -M bug and missing -b changes in vmscli.cld [Christian S] - VMS: fixed cmdline.obj bug in descrip.mms [Christian S] Cheers, Greg ================================================================================ Archive-Date: Sun, 07 Jan 1996 22:47:37 CST Sender: owner-info-zip-announce@WKUVX1.WKU.EDU Date: Sun, 7 Jan 1996 22:46:55 -0600 (CST) From: Cave Newt Reply-To: Info-ZIP@WKUVX1.WKU.EDU Message-ID: <199601080446.WAA10395@ellis.uchicago.edu> To: info-zip-announce@wkuvx1.wku.edu Subject: UnZip 5.20i BETA, zcrypt 2.5i2 BETA uploaded [unz520i.msg, 7 Jan 96: this is a beta, do not distribute, etc.] [PLEASE REPLY TO ZIP-BUGS, NOT TO INFO-ZIP. Basically the main change is the inclusion of George's old MVS and VM/CMS patches, a job which I'd been somewhat dreading. Christian also did a fine job of updating the crypt stuff (should be compatible with both 5.20i and Zip 2.0t) and of integrating the zlib-compatible CRC stuff, including various assembly-language versions on which Paul Kienitz has also been working for the past few weeks. The *only* other change of note is my modification to the "unzip -l" output to show EA sizes. This is on by default under OS/2 and can be turned on for other OSes by defining OS2_EAS at compile time. I'm still deciding what to do about Kai Uwe's EA summary line...I may just leave it as is. No bugs were fixed, but I'll get to that UnZipSFX -x bug next. Here's the full list: - Windows: de-tabified win16dll files [Christian] - updated CRC stuff, full crypt sources [Christian] - big clean-up: made local variables and functions static; improved memory usage for static strings; moved OS-specific unzpriv.h config stuff into local directories (for msdos, os2, win32); removed remaining OLD_EXDIR code; etc. [Christian] - OS/2: added OS2_EAS to unzip -v screen and INSTALL file [CN] - Windows: more GUI updates [Mike W] - removed "boolean" typedef [CN] - renamed vm_mvs subdirectory to cmsmvs to avoid underscore problem on MVS [CN, Christian] - renamed file_io.c to fileio.c to avoid underscore problem on MVS; updated all makefiles and docs [CN, Christian] - fixed UnZipSFX -x bug [Christian] - VMS: fixed MMK/MMS warning-death in dummy crypt.c; fixed typo in cmdline.c [Christian, Hunter] - OS/2: changed orphan OS2DLL macro to OS2API [CN, Christian] Cheerios, Greg
