From: EVMS::EVERHART 30-MAY-1997 08:49:51.24 To: STAR::S_FLYNN CC: EVERHART Subj: stuff I sent I should suggest this. The stuff I sent you has the ability to have a user mode server contacted (the jtdmn part) when someone tries opening a file. If the file is stored across a network, it's perfectly feasible to pull it into a local "cache" store and access it there. That kind of thing is close enough to what AFS and the DCE DFS do that it might be worth thinking about as a growth path for remote file access. If the top level directory access is ever replaced by a dbms, it is just one more step to involve some ability to access search other sites. (For the record, DEC has my permission to do such things with the code too.) Glenn Everhart
