There are some assumptions in the procedure I want to describe: 1.) There is a running VAXcluster with a bootnode and some Satellites. You want to move the Satellites, so that they use the AXP-Machine as a boot- and file-server. 2.) Because of redundancy you should to keep the former but slower boot-server-VAX (in my case a MicroVAX 3600) running (Think about the problem, if you want to install new software!). ======================================================== 0) Shutdown the satellite 1) backup/noas vax:[vms$common...] - axp:[vaxcommon...]/log/ver (This must be done after every change of the vax/vms-software located in the syscommon-files!) 2.) backup/noas vax:[SYSx...]/excl=[SYSx.syscommon...] - axp:[SYSx...]/log/ver 3.) delete AXP:[SYSx]syscommon.dir;1 4.) set file/enter=[SYSx]syscommon.dir axp:[000000]vaxcommon.dir 5.) Control the tree (use cswing) 6.) update the decnet-database: $ mc ncp ncp> def node "satellite" Hardware Address - 08-00-2b-xx-xx-xx ncp> def node "satellite" tertiary loader - sys$system:tertiary_vmb.exe ncp> def node "satellite" load assist agent - sys$share:niscs_laa.exe ncp> def node "satellite" load assist parameter - axp: ncp> set node "satellite" all 7.) clear the entry of the "satellite" on the former vax-boot-node 8.) boot the satellite 9.) correct errors in systartup_v5.com and define/sys/exec sysuaf etc. properly. Mount the former boot_disk as early as possible. 10.) If everything is ok, you may use cluster_config.com to delete the satellite-file on the vax. 11.) It's unsupported! ======================================================== If you have any comments, I'll be thankful to get them. I'll summarize. As the next point, I want to use the "old" vms-queue-manager. I tried to follow the instructions, Todd Wipke posted, but without success (jobctl.exe doesn't run.I get: %DCL-W-ACTIMAGE, error activating image JOBCTL.EXE;1 -CLI-E-IMGNAME, image file DKA300:[VMS$COMMON.SYSEXE]JOBCTL.EXE;1 -SYSTEM-W-SYSVERDIF, system version mismatch; please relink). regards Eberhard ps. I had some small trouble with my mailer, because the new alpha-system use a different sysuaf.dat.
