LIAISON_TOOLS V2.0 LIAISON_TOOLS is distributed in VMSINSTAL kit format. So if you are familiar with VMS software installation you will find LIAISON_TOOLS installation to be familiar and easy. The steps are: 1. Log into the SYSTEM account. 2. Physically mount the distribution tape. 3. Enter: $ @SYS$UPDATE:VMSINSTAL LT020 ddcu: Where ddcu: is the name of the tape drive upon which the distribution tape is mounted. 4. You can safely ignore the warning about other users on the system. Answer Y to the prompt. 5. LIAISON_TOOLS does not jeopardize the contents of any disk. No special backup is necessary. You can answer Y at the "are you satisfied with the backup" prompt. 6. Answer any installation questions and wait, the installation will take only a few minutes. 7. Add the $ @SYS$STARTUP:LT$STARTUP.COM command to you system startup procedure. 8. Add the $ LT_INIT == "@LT_SYSTEM:LT_INIT.COM" symbol definition to your system login command procedure. 9. Edit the files in the LT_DATA directory to include the information specific to your system (especially LT_GROUP_INFO.DAT). Once the installation is complete you can examine the help information to see what capabilities you want for which users. The $ HELP LIAISON command will get you started. The help text will tell you the rights identifiers needed to get access to each tool group. All necessary rights IDs were created during the installation process. The steps to enable a user are: 1. Grant the appropriate ID(s) to the account. 2. Have the user log in. 3. Have the user enter: $ LT_INIT The symbols for the commands that user has access to are now defined. If a $ SET VERIFY command is entered before the $ LT_INIT the list of command groups defined will be displayed on SYS$OUTPUT.
