I'm impressed -that's going to be a fair job but sounds pretty useful.
Some places you might want to look would be:

1) At the tn3270 sources that are in the public domain.  I'm pretty
sure you can find them on some system at Berkeley.

2> You can probably find lpr/lpd sources there as well.

If you are planning on writing TCP/IP code, this book is a must.
It actually has examples!  Don't leave your node without it.

Internetworking with TCP/IP, Volume I - Douglas E. Comer

This volume covers the architecture of TCP/IP, along with history,
protocol details and an introduction to SNMP.  Volume II is to
cover implementation details and internals.  As far as I know it
isn't out yet.
