        WRONG !!!!  ^^^
        If you mail a file with escape sequences (over decnet or to a
local user, same thing), when you READ (=display) the file, MAIL will
substitute dollar-signs in place of the ESC characters, to avoid messing
up your display, but if you EXTRACT the message to a file and then look
at it (EDT, DUMP...) you will see REAL Esc codes, no dollars ! That why
you should never blindly obey a subject like : "Extract this message
then TYPE it..."; scary things could happen if some bad guy was at the
origin of the mail.

        I think it works since 5.0, but I can only affirm it for 5.1-1.
