I spent more time on debugging this time (I was rushed last time), and I can be quite sure that this VMS TAR will compile with no hassles, and should be free of all found bugs. The new version number is 1.1, which indicates that this a release containing new features. The last version was 1.0-1 The new features include: 1. File specification lists 2. Handling of Bourne shell wildcards on EXTRACT and LIST 3. Automatic creation of directories 4. The /OUTPUT qualifier has become rational 5. Modify time-handling to allow TAR to compile under VMS V4 6. Add capability to /APPEND to an archive on tape 7. Correct behaviour when Ctrl-Z typed at a /CONFIRM prompt 8. Bug fixes I will immediately follow this posting with the first 3 of 6 parts of VMS TAR wrapped up in its VMS_SHARE blanket. The remaining 3 parts will follow tomorrow. For those who encounter trouble in getting any parts, try asking someone nearby for them. I will answer any requests for parts from someone in Australia, but I will not send them via international e-mail, as this costs my employer money. Stephen Tihor was (probably still is) maintaining a copy of VMS TAR (plus a binary for those without PASCAL) for anonymous FTP at ACFcluster.NYU.EDU. He will probably update his archive to include version 1.1. I'm sure there would be other places where it will appear, as well. While I'm here, a poser: Why doesn't someone volunteer as moderator of comp.sources.vms, in conjunction with proposing its creation? I know it's a fairly old debate, but it's never really been concluded has it? Tim Cook Systems Administrator Victoria College Computer Services
