Ted Nieland and DECUS Public Domain Working Group are now doing a more official version, to be followed up by a collection tape. As well, Ric Steinberger has put together a similar sort of thing using a list of utilies with descriptions and how/where to get them via the net. Through all of this, I have not yet posted the results of the original tally; I will do so now. First, though, I'd like to remind you to vote in official DECUS poll. Here is an extract from Ted's message, for details: >The voting for the programs is open to all people (even if your aren't a >DECUS member [and why aren't you?]). We are asking for you to vote for your >top three favorite public domain programs. Voting is being accepted from the >Internet, on DCS, on DECUServe, and through the U.S. Mail. An article has >also been submitted to the Pageswapper announcing the vote. > >To vote on the internet, send a message containing three lines with the name >of your top three programs in order to "VMS_VOTE%FALCON@AAMRL.AF.MIL". For >example, a message would like: > > TEX > FINGER > BULLETIN > >and would indicate the number one program for a person is TeX, the number two >program is FINGER, and the number three program is BULLETIN. PLEASE VOTE BY >AUGUST 1, 1989. If possible, we will try have the tape available at >symposium or right after it. > >If your DECUS LUG would like to notify it's members about the vote, feel free. >Votes via US Mail should be sent to: > > Ted Nieland > Systems Research Laboratories, Inc. > 2800 Indian Ripple Road > Dayton, OH 45440-3696 >... And, finally, the tally. Note that some of these have have descriptions, while others do not. I pretty much used what I was sent, where it was concise. I don't have the time to research them all; it wasn't always clear which utility was intended, and I'm not expert enough to make asssumptions.
