VMS 5 flushes the modified pagefile much more often than VMS 4.x which in turn causes many more small writes to the pagefile. According to Allen Watson in DIGITAL REVIEW Sept.4, 1989 this can badly fragment the file in only a few hours after booting. In the next issue he suggest a fix which restores VMS V4 MPW behavior. Set MPW_IOLIMIT to one and MPW_LOWAITLIM to MPW_LOLIM. I wouldn't advise doing this kind of thing without reading both articles first. And then studying your system symptoms to be sure that changing these parameters would help rather than hurt your system. Ray
