I hand routed it with a bangpath. I also have a test message following this one going through my normal "gateway" to .EDU. Per Ted's question, I am 99.9% sure that UUnet is running Domain service and MX. UUnet.uu.net is the primary nameserver for all registered domains in the UUCP zone. (seismo.css.gov is the secondary.) Since UUCP zone based domains don't have Internet host numbers, it wouldn't make sense for UUnet to be using both. I know that they respond to an NS (nameserver) request with MX (mail exchanger) information. Mail from the Internet to the acci.com domain now goes directly to the arpanet host down the street - it doesn't pass through uunet at all. More directly to Ted's point - if you are a UUCP zone based domain, UUnet better know where you are - they are how the rest of the world finds you! One problem however is that not all of the world knows how to issue NS requests. For those hosts, if you are not in the hosts table, you need to make sure that your From address arrives such that the non NS site can find you. Usually, pushing the mail through UUnet or one of the advertised UUCP<->Internet gateways (like DECWRL.COM) should solve the problem. --- Tom Tom Allebrandi | Advanced Computer Consulting,Inc | Charlottesville, VA 804 977 4272 | VMS User's Network Working Group -- The DECUS UUCP people ---------- you should be able to find me somewhere in this mess ----------- Bix: ta2 | Internet: ta2@acci.com | Bitnet: ta2%esther@virginia.edu DCS: ALLEBRANDI | DECUServe: ALLEBRANDI | Pageswapper: US142404 | UUCP: ta2@esther.uucp (...!uunet!virginia!esther!ta2)
