To: INFO-VAX <@NSFnet-Relay.AC.UK:INFO-VAX@crvax.sri.com> Subject: New version of LIBSEARCH About six months ago, I sent a program called LIBSEARCH to this list, having received many mail messages requesting it. Messages have continued to trickle in, and I've made a number of improvements to the program. Accordingly, I am going to post a new version of LIBSEARCH to the list, in 7 parts, each below 30 blocks, VMS_SHAR'ed as is usual. If you don't get a particular part, WAIT for about a week to see if the net finally delivers it. IF it still hasn't turned up, mail me (or a friend) and I will send you the missing bits if I can. I can't mail usenet addresses in general, but can reach just about anything else. For those who missed it before, or have forgotten, LIBSEARCH is a program which does much the same job as VMS SEARCH, except that it searches libraries (text, help or macro) instead of simple files. It has nearly all the qualifiers that SEARCH does, and behaves in a similar way. You can use LIBSEARCH to find out which modules in a HELP library give help on a particular topic, or find out which macros define which symbols, or which include file you need from a text library. Enhancements to LIBSEARCH for Version 1.4 include: Support for most V5 SEARCH qualifiers, including /CONFIRM, /HIGHLIGHT, /BEFORE/SINCE etc. /BEFORE and /SINCE default to using module dates unless you specify /CREATED, etc. Many bug fixes, especially concerning strange things such as numeric HELP subtopics. Ability to be invoked as a foreign command, as well as SET COMMAND. Handling of qualifier subtopics, and trimming of long subtopics. Many thanks are due to Pat Rankin of caltech.eql who sent many helpful suggestions, together with code for most of them. If you have any more gripes, suggestions, improvements or bug fixes concerning LIBSEARCH, feel free to mail me. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Kevin Ashley janet: K.Ashley@Uk.Ac.Ulcc.Ncdlab Network Development Group Manager Telephone: +44 1 405 8400 University of London Computer Centre.
