(And it didn't; it just zapped the volume label.) When adding satellite nodes, we use CLUSTER_CONFIG to initialize the disk only if (a) it will not be served to the cluster and (b) is used only for local page/swap and scratch disk. Otherwise, we use CLUSTER_CONFIG to add the satellite as diskless. After booting the satellite (with small page/swap files on the system disk), we initialize the local disk as desired and prepare a SYPAGSWPFILES.COM file in the SYS$SPECIFIC:[SYSMGR] area of this node. The SYPAGSWPFILES procedure mounts the local disk and installs the page and swap files. The STARTUP procedure looks first for SYS$SYSTEM:SATELLITE_PAGE.COM and then for SYS$MANAGER:SYPAGSWPFILES.COM early in the startup; either of these procedures can be used to mount local disks and install page/swap files. After SYPAGSWPFILES is ready and the local disk has been initialized, we rename the small page/swap files in SYS$SYSTEM to something like OLD-PAGEFILE.SYS and reboot the node. When then node restarts, it will now execute SYPAGSWPFILES and mount the local disk and install its page/swap files from this disk (assuming everything has been done correctly). Since the main system disk files (now named OLD-*FILE.SYS) are not being used, they can be deleted. = Dr. Frank J.
