Does anyone know the >>> status of this and whether DEC is likely to offer it anytime soon? I attended one session at DECUS on POSIX compliant VMS (It may have been the only one). What I seem to recall from it (I don't have the notebook readily available) was the following: DEC is interested, and plans to support the approved POSIX standards. DEC has developed a prototype of a "parallel" POSIX, where the POSIX layers and the VMS layers are both available (and can work together). POSIX will operate parallel to VMS, not as layers on top of it. The product name will be VIP - VMS Integrated POSIX. Note I didn't mention any ship dates, etc. One of the DEC managers at the session was quick to point out that what they have is a prototype, not a coming product (yet). I would classify it as "no longer a rumor", there will be VMS POSIX at some point. Just don't expect the SPD in the mail tomorrow...
