OPERATOR.COM --- Big, hairy set of command procedures to perform a wide
variety of user-friendly operator chores from a captive account.

This assumes pretty brain-damaged operators are at the controls. Help
is provided at almost every prompt. Operators will still need some minor
instruction.

This distribution should contain the following files:

ACCSUMM.COM;1 Summarize accounting data
BACKUPS.COM;1 Perform full and incremental backups
EDIT.COM;1 Use an editor (EDT)
EDT.INI;1 Initialization file for EDT
HELP.COM;1 Access system HELP
HELP.TXT;1 Operator HELP text
MAIL.COM;1 Run VMS MAIL
MAKETAPE.COM;1 Write accounting tape for the bean counters
NAIL.EXE;1 Gracefully slay a process (with warning)
NAIL.FOR;1 Source to above
OPLOG.COM;1 The OPERATOR login procedure (The big guy)
PHONE.COM;1 Run VMS PHONE
RESTART.COM;1 Initialize accounting data
RESTORE.COM;1 Restore a file found on backup journal

See the OPLOG.COM file for customization instructions.

This package has been successfully used at Hughes SCG Computing technology
Center for the last three years. It may be a bit kludgy and certainly it
could be cleaned up; but great pains have been taken to insure that the
command procedure does not allow even clever operators to gain access to
the monitor, and thus to full VMS privileges. So far, this has never
happened (knock-knock!).

As always, this is offered 'as is', but the author will endeavor to answer
any questions or listen to suggestions.
