VAX SIG Spring 1986 Tapes Initial Documentation


	This is the index directory to the VAX SIG tapes. This
file holds comments specific to the Spring 1986 tapes.

	The top level description summary to the Spring '86
VAX SIG tapes is contained in VAX86ABTP.DOC in this directory.
Also in this directory are the files AAAREADME.86A and
AAAREADME.86B, the concatenated AAAREADME.TXT files from
the respective trees.

	The tapes are in VMS Backup format. Due to the large number
of submissions with long filenames, however, the files have not
been renamed to short filenames this time. Thus, some RMS errors
will occur if you attempt to read the tape on a VMS V3 system,
though many files will remain extractable. It was impractical to
rename so many files again this time, and since almost all the user
community has switched to VMS V4 it was felt improper to force V4
sites to do an extra renaming step to get back the original filenames.

	All areas have ONE AAAREADME.TXT (and possibly many 
AAAREADME.something_else) file. This is done to ensure that the summary
is short enough to be useful.

	Be sure and look throught the tapes for all backup sets
present.

	Note that we again have an index of the tapes.  In order to minimize
the preparation time of this tape we have not put its index on, we have,
however included the index for the Fall 1985 tape and a composite index for 
all the tapes.  The composite index is quite large and has been compressed
- see [VAX000.INDEX]AAAREADME.1ST for decompression instructions.

	The Spring 1986 VAX SIG tape (as has been the practice for several
years) contains three VMS backup savesets.  They are VAX000, VAX86A and
VAX86B.  VAX000 and VAX86A will fit on one 2400' reel of tape when recorded
at 1600 bpi.  VAX86B will fit on one 2400' reel of tape at 1600 bpi.

	This tape was put together from submissions at the Spring 1986 DECUS
Symposium, Dallas, Texas April/May 1986 by
