The merged 2.1 alpha distribution is available.  It should contain all
of Alan's patches, most of the vmsgopher patches.  (I still have to
put in the syslog stuff for VMS I guess...)

It's available via anonymous ftp from boombox.micro.umn.edu in
/pub/gopher/Unix and /pub/gopher/VMS

Consult the changes file for more information about the new stuff.  

Code that I've modified includes File separator code.  General
Authentication routines, predefined searches, and more..

I have at least two bug reports, one relates to Abstract= lines, they
bomb out..  I'll have some bug fixes soon.  

As far as compatibility goes, so far so good, I've tested on Solaris,
SunOS, Multinet, next, A/UX, Irix 5 and AIX..

I'll be interested in hearing comments, criticisms, porting notes,
etc..

Things that I would like to get done before I release 2.1 include:

  incorporate proxy and caching into server.

  Have a magic selector string that displays a link tree of the
  current server or a specific directory.
 
  Finally finish translating the form code to be totally dynamic in form.[ch]
