Raster Image Processing Symposium Does anyone else have this CD ? Has anyone tried using the TerraVision demo files for VMS Vaxstation? I've got the files into VMS environment, but TerraVision DEMO.EXE says Phone TerraVision to register this product! Not much of a Demo. Getting the files to VMS was interesting... I tried mounting the CD and using EXCHANGE/NETWORK as per the release notes, but nothing worked. I think I needed Beta release of some ISSO component to make it work. So moved to ever-faithful XT PC running Pathworks 4..... First I tried NFT COPY on some of the smaller <2MB files, but the transfer to our 6220 never completed before falling over. So did LOGON to M: and used DOS COPY from L: (CD-ROM) to M: (VMS) This went really well, moving the "smaller" files at about 2MB/minute, and the largest transfer of a 21MB image took 14mins ! Not bad for CD-ROM and XT with DEPCA going to 6220 with DEBNI. But disappointment returned when DEMO.EXE decided not to demo on VAXstation! DEMO.EXE looks OK according to analyze/image. Has anyone else used TerraVision product on VAXstation? By this I mean a graph/slide/doodle/etc drawn in one application could be imported into another application (not as a bitmap, which would give grotty output quality) The imported 'object' should then be at least partly editable (ie font changes etc) after being imported. This would require a 'standard' grapical description language. This is all possible on MAC's at the moment, (Via quickdraw I believe) (Here comes the question, at last!) Is anything like this proposed for XWindows or will every application have to munge it? It seems to be this is a basic requirement of a graphical user interface, and should have been on the list of basic X features. Hear! I'm looooooooking for the same thing .. but not succeeding much either. If anyone would like to compare notes at anytime, give me a hoy via email (DENHARTOG@HFRD.DSTO.OZ.AU) or phone 08 259 6010 in Australia. We are looking at providing whatever we can on our own, probably using a metafile standard (if such exists in ONE form, let alone many) such as CGM - ISO has accepted the Computer Graphics Metafile format: ANSI/ISO 8632.1 - 1991 : CGM for the storage and transfer of picture description info, Part 1 - Functional. ANSI/ISO 8632.2 - 1991 : Part 2 - Character encoding. ANSI/ISO 8632.3 - 1991 : Part 3 - Binary encoding. ANSI/ISO 8632.4 - 1991 : Part 4 - Clear Text Encoding. My environment want something that is likely to become THE standard if this is at all possible. The above info was gained from the US DECUS Newsletters (whatever their called) and the April 1991 issue contains an annual report (1990) on ANSI computer graphics standards as well. Well worth reading .. look for the GAPSIG (graphics applications special interest group) newsletter called the Graph Paper. Also, can I suggest anyone interested in sharing progress either through individual effort, or by product, shoot details to our DECUS graphics SIG editor for publication in DECUS News. Hey! I'm interested too! ================================================================================ Note 4.0 Graphics SIG AGM - election details? How 'bout it? ================================================================================ Note 5.0 Evaluating Graphics File Conversion Software No replies VAXNET::DENHARTOGP6 8 lines 22-AUG-1991 15:10 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A GAPSIG newsletter for May, 1991 titled: "Evaluating Graphics File Conversion Software" may be of interest to some people. I have a copy of this item if anyone's interested. ================================================================================ Note 6.0 GUIs No replies VAXNET::KENNEDYM5 3 lines 22-AUG-1991 17:35 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Anybody know of any GUIs that run on VMS and ULTRIX and provides multiple device support (ie.
