No replies OPNOFF::SYSTEM 5 lines 21-AUG-1992 12:00 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to VAX NOTES This conference is for discussions relating to Restaurants ================================================================================ Note 2.0 "New Tokyo", OK but not great No replies OPNNET::BEGGJ17 12 lines 23-AUG-1992 18:35 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- We found a place called "New Tokyo" about one block down Flinders Street. It was OK but nothing brilliant. We chose it because it was close (and therefore not far to walk on a cold night) and we wanted something light. I had the sushi, and I can't recommend it. I've had fresh sushi before and I don't think this one was. It wasn't off, but I suspect it had just been out of the deep freeze after several weeks... Otherwise OK. Not the cheapest though!! ================================================================================ Note 4.0 Anchors No replies OPNNET::CAMERONJ12 1 line 24-AUG-1992 14:34 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Nice place, but I can't afford it... ================================================================================ Note 5.0 Pratty's Patch - Bendigo No replies OPNNET::HORQUED26 4 lines 24-AUG-1992 15:14 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If any of you feel like a trip to the country while you're here, I highly recommend a trip to Bendigo (about 2 hours away), and then out to a small country cottage by name of Pratty's Patch. Superb food and a great country atmosphere. ================================================================================ Note 6.0 Mexican 1 reply OPNNET::DELAINEM14 4 lines 25-AUG-1992 15:23 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Try Mexicali Rose over on Swan St (I think) at Richmond. Very good quality, reasonable prices and relatively authentic. Mike. ================================================================================ Note 6.1 Mexican 1 of 1 OPNNET::BURNETM26 2 lines 26-AUG-1992 13:13 -< thanks, will try >- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sounds good, will try on Friday night. ================================================================================ Note 7.0 Jim's Tavern 1 reply OPNNET::COLDRICKD6 3 lines 25-AUG-1992 16:47 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Jim's Tavern, in Collingwood for Greek. I'm still recovering from the volume of fantastic food - seafood, cheese, dips, vegies, lamb. Wonderfull - but go hungry. ================================================================================ Note 7.1 Jim's Tavern 1 of 1 OPNNET::WADEM15 "Malcolm Wade" 1 line 28-AUG-1992 12:03 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I agree totally. Went there 6 or so months ago. What a night ! ================================================================================ Note 8.0 Italian - Amoretto No replies OPNNET::DELAINEM14 10 lines 27-AUG-1992 11:06 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- For some Italian try Amoretto on Victoria Parade at Fitzroy. Quality (& quantity!) food, reasonable prices. (City bound people take the 42 tram from Collins Street to the second stop along Victoria Parade. It's next door to the 7-11, which is opposite the MacDonalds....) Mike. ================================================================================ Note 9.0 Malaysian for a bit of Spice 2 replies OPNNET::STOKOLG3 13 lines 27-AUG-1992 16:08 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- For Malaysian food you can try (in the City): Ong's Food Court - in a basement near the Welcome Hotel. Hotel Entrance is in Little Bourke Street (between Swanston and Elizabeth St). Good value (mains $5.50-$7.00) and good variety. Look for signs. Lat's Corner - In Heffernan (?) Lane just off Little Bourke Street. Find Coles Supermarket and the Lane is nearby by on the opposite side of the road. Also good value - especially the Hawker dishes. Bon appetite :-) (Sorry I don't know Malay) ================================================================================ Note 9.1 Malaysian for a bit of Spice 1 of 2 OPNNET::MCMORRAND11 4 lines 27-AUG-1992 18:36 -< More Malaysian >- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Also the Malaya and The Little Malaya are not bad. Both are up the Spring St end of town (ie. other end from here). Check the phone book for the address. But Ong's Food Hall is good for authentic hawker style food and environment. ================================================================================ Note 9.2 Malaysian for a bit of Spice 2 of 2 OPNNET::GARNERR30 "Robin Garner" 4 lines 28-AUG-1992 09:42 -< Malay for beginners ... >- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- > Bon appetite :-) (Sorry I don't know Malay) Selamat makan ! ================================================================================ Note 10.0 Superb Seafood No replies OPNNET::WADEM15 "Malcolm Wade" 6 lines 28-AUG-1992 12:03 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If you can afford it try the Melbourne Oyster Bar. 10 minutes walk from the Centre. Superb Seafood. Malcolm
