Or is it, can't afford to be interested? Governments seems to be pressing ahead with setting policy for requiring OSI conformance but not making very much usage of it. Will the driving force end up being the conversion of Internet? Speaking as a "government" person (in Australia), the Internet doesn't appear to have market share. In one state government of which I have some familiarity, there are somewhere between 15 and 20 departments, using somewhere between 15 and 20 different operating systems. Nobody networks with anybody (okay ... slight simplification). In terms of OSI, I agree that we (or is it they) are mandating OSI conformance but as a poor dumb VMS manager, attempting to understand State Purchasing Policy and Australian GOSIP (with local variations) gives me the willies. Hence I am not rushing headlong into pressing suppliers to come up with GOSIP compliant stuff. I will add though that as well as having an Internet address on my business card, I also have an X.400 address ... well I'm impressed. Phil ====
